Nicolai was abandoned by his young mother, locked up and left alone in a house without heat, wearing only a soiled diaper. God placed in him a will to live, and he broke off pieces of the door until he could crawl out and go begging for food.  He crawled back into the hole at night to curl up alone and sleep.  When the local authorities found him, he was placed in an orphanage.  Months later, he was taken home by GMI national missionaries Anatol and Lilia. In a small village set in the center of the Republic of  Moldova, he lives there with in what we call a Home of Hope.  In their family live 6 orphans, each one with a horrific beginning, who had broken lives but are now being restored.  Each child was born to different parents. These children are being raised up as disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ, and they are receiving practical life skills.  They are excelling in school and joyously doing daily chores as they celebrate the love of a family. The family is making great strides toward future self-sufficiency due to the generous giving of our partners.

In another Home of Hope, Pastor Anatol and his family are located in a major city in Transnistria near the border of Moldova.  Pastor Anatol is the senior pastor of a large established church and oversees 10 national missionaries supported by GMI.  He and his wife have 5 biological children and 3 adopted children. The oldest adopted child graduated from high school with honors and is now studying at a pharmaceutical college. The children are being raised in a loving atmosphere, excellent in all they do. Anatol and his wife, Dina, are living examples of servants raising up a generation who will impact their nation.

Self-sufficiency is developed in this agrarian economy by raising small animals and crops.  The surplus is then sold to meet other needs.
